Wall coverings – creating skirtings and/or scotias

Posted on: 28 Jul, 2014

We are experimenting using the wall Coverings tool to add details to walls. While we have had some success we find the following limitations: 1. Skirting only – easy to generate but in plan it always appears as if in section - is there some way to get to show in outline only? (Other than changing the Section Attributes to mock a plan outline as this is not helpful in a section) 2. Skirting and scotia – mostly easy to generate but you have to create a covering between them – while the tool will accept a thickness of 0 for the main covering you get error reports every time you generate a 3d view. Also in plan view you only "see" the main covering – there is not option for seeing an outline of the skirting below. So, is there some way we can get these options in the tool? Or are there workarounds with the current tool settings? Regards, Karl

Wall Coverings top shape custom setting

Posted on: 12 Mar, 2014

Hi Jonny, How editable is the 'custom shape' option for top shape and bottom shape of wall coverings? I can get it to have a single slope as shown in the first sketch on the attachment, but can't seem to edit it any more than that, for example to get the other two sketched shapes. Are these possible? The reference guide says the shape is edited graphically but there doesn't seem to be any other hotspots to create those kinds of shapes. Cheers, Harley

Sill covering issue. It's not the same in plan view than in section.

Posted on: 06 Jan, 2014

Hi Team The covering sill is not performing as I’d expect. I have added a sill under the windows under the Openings options. In plan view the front edge is 120mm from the framing but in section it is 80mm. I was expecting the sill in plan to be 80mm from the framing and can’t find a way to adjust it. If I set it from lining it is still not correct.

A mysterious void shows up in one of my Coverings. How do I fix it?

Posted on: 20 Nov, 2013

I have a simple, 90-degree exterior corner where two thick composite walls intersect. When I clad them with Coverings, I end up with a strange long void along the edge of one side. See the attached images. This happens whether or not I have the upper trim activated as shown -- I left the upper trim in place for the screenshots because I thought the curious way the trim wraps around to become a long vertical might be a clue to what's going wrong. No hidden SEO layers are in effect. Any suggestions for solving this would be appreciated! -Adam

wall covering favorites

Posted on: 11 Sep, 2013

so i have saved my coverings as favorites while the covering tool is activated with a wall selected. which works great. however when i go into my favorites dialog box out side of the settings dialog box the favorite does not exsist. i can see the favorite only when i have the wall covering tool active, and only in the settings dialog. the issue im having is because the favorite only shows up in the favorites dialog when the tool is active. and the favorites dialog is the only place i can edit or delete the favorite. so if i want to make changes to a wall covering favorite its not possible. am i missing something? would this be an issue on archicads end or cadimage?

Wall covering presets

Posted on: 02 Aug, 2013

I have noticed that the presets dont cover all of the wall covering options, such as the section view to specify to show shadows, extend trim to wall etc. will this be added soon? also it seems that the covering preset for the cladding reference origin will not save when i set it to one of the drawing predefined stories. it would be nice to not have to remember to change that everytime i reopen a drawing and go to place coverings. i can set it once the drawing is open, but if i close and reopen it resets.

I'm not sure what is SUPPOSED to be used with tile roofs, but this certainly is not appropriate for a Spanish tile roof. Does Coverings include a ridge tile cap like the standard one in ArchiCAD? I'm hoping I just missed it somewhere.

Constantly getting error message that roof covering cant be reserved?

Posted on: 25 Jun, 2013

Hi, I have noticed that when we use Cadimage Roof Coverings we constantly get this error message every time that either a roof (that has a covering applied to it) is edited somehow, or the covering itself is also edited somehow. The message still appears even if we have all roofs and convering objets reserved. Also I noticed that if I edit a roof that has a covering associated to it, I cannot later get the covering to update, even if using the UPDATE COVERINGS command. An error message appears, and I have to delete the coverings and do them again every time, very tedious and inefficient.

Can I use the roof covering tool to add just the details? ie Flashing & gutters?

Posted on: 24 Jun, 2013

Hi I have a model that I made in version 15, but is now in version 16. I used the roof covering tool, but with the roof covering turned off as it was too slow (large and complex roof). I worked out that you turn off the roof covering and give the roof thickness as “0” so that the flashings sit down against the roof, otherwise there is a gap. One of my colleagues is using the roof covering tool in version 16 but can’t find the setting to achieve the same as I did in 15. The set out of the dialogue boxes has changed but I hope this useful setting hasn’t “fallen off”. I hope you can help. Thanks

Are flat roof coverings possible?

Posted on: 09 Jan, 2013

I am using Coverings, v16 and note that slabs can be covered with wood flooring and are of course typically flat. Roofs, typically pitched are available with corrugated or standing seam coverings. But is seems there is no ability to have a metal formed deck that is FLAT as might be used under a poured concrete slab. I have attached a sample drawing showing a covering attached to a 1/2" thick plywood FLAT "roof". The plywood layer has been turned off for clarity, revealing the metal covering, hovering above the supporting angle iron on one side. Though the plywood "roof" was level (FLAT), the covering hovers on one side. Is there any work around to bring this sloping covering into level?

Do Cadimage Coverings impact on ArchiCAD 16's Energy Evaluation?

Posted on: 04 Dec, 2012

My question is specifically in regards to the roof covering. But I assume it would be relevant for all covering tools. The current ArchiCAD 16 tutorials on BEM encourage the use of composite slabs, walls and roofs. When I create a roof using the roof tool (which I cut fill for the roof framing) and place a Cadimage roof covering over the roof. Will the model take that into account when I perform an energy evaluation? or, will I instead need to create a secondary BEM roof, that includes all of the materials in a single composite structure? Same question with walls and slabs.

Continuity of coverings over several stories

I am using the Covering tool to apply running bond panels on exterior walls. By necessity, my walls are broken at the underside of my floors. So, I have several instances of the same pattern of panelling stacked on top of each other. My problem is that I can not get the panel seams to layout properly when they meet the panel above even when all objects are set to use the lowest level as the Reference Origin to start the layout. The reference origin OFFFSET will also not eventually line up the panels. It seems to just jump around with no rational behavior. Could be a bug?
